Gianluigi Donnarumma makes one ‘promise’ to fans after joining Man City

Gianluigi Donnarumma has joined Manchester City on a long-term deal, reportedly worth £26m in the concluding moments of the summer transfer window deadline.

Donnarumma decided to part ways with Paris Saint-Germain due to a fallout after he was left out of the squad for the 2025 UEFA Super Cup following the arrival of new goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier.

Following his farewell at the Parc des Princes, Donnarumma signed a five-year deal with Man City that also includes an option to extend for a further 12 months. The Italian star’s arrival also saw Ederson parting ways with Man City and joining Fenerbahce after eight illustrious years at the Etihad.

During his four-year career at PSG, Donnarumma registered 161 appearances and maintained 56 clean sheets while winning 10 trophies, including four Ligue 1 titles and one UEFA Champions League title, with the French club.

Now, after the move to Man City, Donnarumma has shared his thoughts, making a promise to Cityzens.

What did Manchester City’s new goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma say?

Donnarumma hailed Man City head coach Pep Guardiola while claiming the English side to be a ‘club every player in world football would love to join.’

“To have signed for Manchester City is such a special and proud moment for me. I am joining a squad packed with world-class talent and a team led by the one of the greatest managers in the history of football in Pep Guardiola. This is a club every player in world football would love to join,” as per Manchester Evening News.

“I have admired watching Manchester City for many years – so to now be able to play for the club is a huge honour and a privilege. I cannot wait to meet my new teammates, the staff and the fans. Playing at the Etihad Stadium will be very, very special for me.”

Donnarumma concluded by promising to give ‘absolutely everything’ to contribute to Man City’s success further.

“I am very excited for what lies ahead and can promise that I will give absolutely everything to try and help the Club achieve even more success.”

With Ederson’s exit and Donnarumma’s arrival, Man City’s summer signing from Burnley, James Trafford, who has started in all three of their matches this season, will face competition to secure his place as the first-choice for Guardiola.
