Gary Woodland, a 4-time PGA Tour winner, will join USA captain Keegan Bradley’s staff at Bethpage Black for the 2025 Ryder Cup. The Americans will look to reclaim the trophy on their soil in 2025.
The 2019 major champion will join Jim Furyk, Kevin Kisner, Brandt Snedeker, and Webb Simpson on the staff in New York. Woodland will be making his first-ever Ryder Cup appearance as a coach or player.
“I have an incredible amount of respect for Gary and all he has done in his career,” said Ryder Cup Captain Keegan Bradley on Wednesday. Woodland had brain surgery in 2023 to remove a tumor. The 41-year-old from Topeka, Kansas, was the recipient of the PGA Tour Courage Award.
Bradley, who currently sits in ninth place just outside of the top 6, which gets automatic bids to play in the Ryder Cup, still has to decide whether to play or be a captain this year. If Bradley chooses to play in this event, the USA team may need to appoint another captain, and the Vice Captains, such as Woodland, could have a more prominent role at Bethpage.
Captain Bradley has been playing some of his best golf of his career this season. He is fresh off a victory at a course he calls “home.” Bradley beat Englishman Tommy Fleetwood down the stretch to capture his eighth PGA Tour win and win the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut.
Bradley would be the first “playing captain” since legendary Arnold Palmer did it in 1963 at East Lake Golf Club.
The Ryder Cup is set for September 26-28 at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York.
