Gary Neville slams Son for ‘mind-boggling’ mistakes in Spurs’ loss to Liverpool

Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool delivered a thrilling Premier League clash on Sunday, but it was Liverpool who walked away with a commanding 6-3 victory.

While the Reds celebrated goals from Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Alexis Mac Allister, Spurs were left frustrated, with Son Heung-min’s performance coming under fire.

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville didn’t hold back in his post-match analysis. Neville was left baffled by Son’s decision-making, calling some of his mistakes “mind-boggling” and “silly.”

Gary Neville criticizes Son for Tottenham defeat

Speaking on the match, Neville highlighted moments where Son’s choices left Spurs vulnerable.

He pointed to one sequence where Son pressed Joe Gomez, leaving Trent Alexander-Arnold unmarked and creating space for Liverpool to exploit.

“They’ve got an exciting attack, but they do some really silly things,” Neville said.

“Son, who I think is a world-class player, made some decisions today that were just nonsensical. Pressing when there’s no chance of winning the ball puts the whole team in trouble.”

Neville emphasized that such errors played a key role in Liverpool’s dominance, particularly in the build-up to their third goal.

While Tottenham’s goals from James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Dominic Solanke gave fans moments to cheer, Liverpool’s clinical finishing ensured they remained top of the table.

Reflecting on his team’s display, Liverpool manager Arne Slot praised their offensive efforts but noted lapses in focus late in the game.

“For the first 65 minutes, it was incredible. But if you stop running in this league, teams like Tottenham will punish you,” he said.

Liverpool now sit four points clear at the top with a game in hand, while Spurs are left to regroup ahead of their next fixture.
