Real Madrid were recently eliminated from the Club World Cup following their disheartening 4-0 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the semifinal on July 9.
The Club World Cup was Xabi Alonso’s first competition since taking charge as Real Madrid’s head coach in May following the dismissal of Carlo Ancelotti.
Los Blancos maintained a five-match undefeated run in the competition prior to their loss against PSG. Alonso reflected on his squad’s display against the French club and said,
“Today’s results are good for us, showing us how much we still have to improve. PSG is doing things well, and we still have things to do. We’re in a competitive environment, practically without training. Now we need a break, but we’ll be back in four weeks,” as per Managing Madrid.
Now, one of Real Madrid’s former stars, Gareth Bale, has shared his thoughts on Alonso being in charge of the squad at Santiago Bernabeu.
What did Gareth Bale say about Real Madrid’s new boss Xabi Alonso?
While speaking to ESPN FC TV on Thursday, Bale was asked for his opinion on whether big names like Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior can play alongside each other and make it work for the benefit of the team.

Bale credited Alonso with being capable of managing the star-studded squad, mentioning that he is ‘not scared’ to omit players if necessary.
“I think if you look off what he did at Leverkusen, yes, and now he’s arguably got better players to work with and I imagine a bigger transfer kitty.”
“So I would like to think Xabi has got the respect of the players and the players will play for him. So I expect big changes and I expect them to play the way he wants them and if they don’t, I don’t think Xabi’s scared to drop anyone.”
Bale joined Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013 and has won 16 trophies, including five Champions League and three LaLiga titles during his nine-year tenure at Los Blancos.
Bale and Alonso have shared the pitch alongside each other in 35 matches for Real Madrid, during which they made one joint goal participation.
