Frank Lampard reveals what he ‘really respect’ about Pep Guardiola as Coventry chase Premier League return

Frank Lampard was appointed head coach of EFL Championship club Coventry City in November last year following the dismissal of former boss Mark Robins.

Since starting his managerial career with Derby County in 2018, Lampard has managed three more clubs so far. However, the Englishman is yet to lead a squad to win some silverware.

Lampard’s squad at Coventry City currently stand sixth in the EFL Championship table with 66 points and two matches remaining for the season. If they are able to hold onto their rank or move up the table till the end, it will allow them a chance to advance into the playoffs.

The playoffs involve four teams following the second position and the winner from those four along with the top two are promoted to the Premier League.

Coventry City last played in the Premier League in the 2000/01 season and a possible promotion for the next campaign will count as a significant managerial achievement for Lampard.

Recently, the English manager opened up about how great managers are always open to providing advice and listed Man City boss Pep Guardiola as of one them while heaping praise on the Catalan.

What did Frank Lampard said about Pep Guardiola?

Lampard told Sky Sports that he has received guidance from experienced managers like Thomas Frank and Guardiola.

“The experienced managers can have a thousand stories. They’ve been there and done it, so they can offer that advice. I’m the same – if any manager wants to come and see what we do here at the training ground, I’m very open with that. I think the most confident and the best are generally like that. (Brentford boss) Thomas Frank, for instance. He invites me to the training ground and Pep Guardiola is the same.”

Lampard also mentioned how despite being a successful manager who has a lot to deal with, Guardiola never shied away from offering advice..

“Pep is the best so you’d think he’d be consumed with everything he’s got going on. But he’ll sit down for an hour and chat about football. I really respect that. I hope that, if I can ever be like that, that’s what I would aspire to,” added Lampard.

Since taking charge in November, Lampard has maintained a win percentage of 51.72% with 15 wins, nine losses, and five draws in 29 matches.

While the current stats are an improvement in comparison to his last managerial stint, it remains to be seen if Lampard is able to reestablish himself with Coventry City.
