Former UFC fighter and boxer Francis Ngannou was involved in a motor vehicle accident that resulted in the death of a 17-year-old in Cameroon. The accident reportedly happened over the Easter holiday weekend, although specific details are still coming out.
Ngannou is best-known for his fighting career in the UFC. He debuted with the company in December 2015, knocking out Luis Henrique in the second round. Ngannou had 14 career fights in the UFC. He finished with a career 18-3 mixed martial arts record, going 12-2 in the UFC, but all three of his losses went to a decision. Ngannou won the Heavyweight Championship, defeating Stipe Miocic in March 2021.
He would only fight one more time with the company. In his first title defense, he won by unanimous decision but had injured his knee three and a half weeks before the fight. After recovering from his injuries, he and the UFC couldn’t agree on contract terms, so he was stripped of his title in January 2023. Ngannou had one more MMA fight in October 2024, but then he switched over to boxing.
