Former world champion Josh Warrington next opponent announced

Josh Warrington (31-4-1, 8 KOs) next opponent has been announced as Asad Asif Khan (19-6-1, 5 KOs).

Warrington and Khan will clash over 10-rounds at super-featherweight on a Matchroom Boxing show in Sheffield, England on April 19th.

The 31-year-old Indian fought another Brit in his last fight. He took Belfast boxer Michael Conlan the distance over eight rounds in Brighton, England in March.

In just his second pro bout, in 2012, he challenged for the WBC Youth light-flyweight title over 10-rounds, but was stopped in four rounds by Sirichai Thaiyen, who was competing in his 26th pro contest.

Khan went on to win the IBO Oceania-Orient featherweight title, as well as challenging, unsuccessfully, for a WBC International belt, which was ahainst yet another Brit – Louie Lynn.

‘Leeds Warrior’ Warrington is now 34. Towards the end of last year, he was forced to announce his intentions of fighting on, with many calling for the former two-time IBF world featherweight champion to retire after only winning one from his last six contests.

It was over three years ago when he last won a fight, which was a seventh-round knockout win over Kiko Martinez. A victory which crowned him as a two-time world champion.

The main event is between WBC #1 super-lightweight Dalton Smith and German Mathieu Germain.
