Former William Scull opponent set for stadium fight in England

America’s Sean Hemphill will face unbeaten super middleweight prospect Mark Jeffers in the chief supporting fight to Callum Simpson’s European title clash with Ivan Zucco on Saturday, June 7 at Oakwell Stadium in Barnsley, presented by BOXXER, live on Sky Sports.

Brit boxer Jeffers (20-0, 7 KOs) has been calling for big fights ever since his English title triumph over Londoner Zak Chelli in July 2023.

The 27-year-old Englishman has extended his unbeaten record with wins over Germaine Brown, Darren Johnstone, Joshua Quartey and Ricardo Lara, and now aims to make a statement against Louisiana native Hemphill.

Sean Hemphill (18-2, 11 KOs), known as ‘Silky’, went the distance with former IBF World Super Middleweight Champion William Scull last year on the undercard of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez’s unified world title defence against Jamie Munguia at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on May 4.

The 29-year-old from New Orleans has since recorded back-to-back wins over Bryant McClain and Ryan Adams, and will cross the Atlantic full of confidence as he looks to establish himself as one of the top contenders in the 168-pound division.

The Louisianan will meet Jeffers in 23,000-capacity football stadium, with full intention of causing an upset on UK soil.

Jeffers, who got married just 10 days ago, had to cut short his honeymoon to return to the gym as he gears up for one of his toughest career tests.

There is a lot on the line for the Lancashire boxer, who has his sights set on a ‘War of the Roses’ showdown with Yorkshire rival Simpson, who headlines a huge night of boxing at the Oakwell Stadium on June 7 against undefeated Italian Zucco.

Mark Jeffers praised his New Orleans opponent, “Hemphill looks like a good fighter, he went the distance with William Scull, so I know he will  be coming to win. But I’m more than ready.

“I want to put on a statement and show that I deserve to be up there with the elites in the division.”

Jeffers plans on beating Hemphill to set up an all-British battle with the headliner Callum Simpson next.
