Matt Leinart’s son asked Amazon’s Alexa about his dad and the former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback was none-too-pleased with her response.
The whole thing was caught on video and posted to Leinart’s Instagram. In the clip, Leinart’s son asks Alexa: “Who is Matt Leinart?”
Leinart immediately looks over like he knows what’s going to happen next and Alexa goes on to list off Leinart’s college accolades, but then finishes off the answer with the brutal truth about the quarterback’s NFL career.
“Matt Leinart was a Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback at USC and a top-10 NFL draft pick,” Alexa began. “But his pro career didn’t amount to much.”
Leinart was a good sport about it and even cracked a laugh.
“Really?” Leinart asked with a smile. “Wow, Alexa’s rough. Damn.”
On top of his Heisman, Leinart was part of two national titles with USC (one was later vacated) in what was quite the decorated college career.
That led to him being the No. 10 overall selection of the Arizona Cardinals in the 2006 NFL draft. However, Leinart’s career did not pan out, so Alexa is not lying.
He spent four years with the Cardinals and showed some promise early on, but injury and the presence of Kurt Warner helped derail him.
Leinart was relegated to backup duty in 2008 and 2009 and was eventually cut in 2010 after losing a quarterback competition with Derek Anderson.
He then spent one season apiece with the Houston Texans and then-Oakland Raiders but was unable to revive his career at either place.
These days, Leinart works as a college football analyst for FOX Sports, something Alexa clearly had no interest in bringing up.
