Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has made a bold claim about a Chelsea legend which plenty of Blues fans will agree with.
Both Chelsea and Liverpool have splashed the cash on new players in the summer transfer window ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
However, the standout deal has been the £116m [$157m] the Reds spent on signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.
Liverpool broke the British transfer record fee to land the player after Manchester City pulled out of the race to sign him.
The deal also raised questions about how much star players from years gone by would cost in the current market, and there’s one former Chelsea player who Agbonlahor believes would cost more than Wirtz.
Chelsea paid £32m [$43m] to sign Eden Hazard from Lille in 2012, but Agbonlahor believes he would outstrip Wirtz, if he was still at the peak of his powers.

Gabriel Agbonlahor names Eden Hazard’s price in today’s market
Speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor was asked how much a 25-year-old Hazard would cost today.
“At 25 years of age. It’s got to be £150m [$203m] minimum. Or maybe you’re talking 175, 180, especially when Neymar went to PSG for what, 190, was it? I’m going to say 160 as a final price.”
Despite his heavy price tag, Wirtz is not the only player to break the £100m [$135m] transfer barrier in Premier League history. Chelsea spent roughly that on both Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, while Arsenal did the same to land Declan Rice in 2023.
But since Caicedo and Fernandez were two of Chelsea’s best players last season, the club will feel it was money well spent, and they have already spent £227m [$307m] accumulatively this summer.
That eight-player list includes a major focus on attacking players with Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Jami Gittens and Estevao Willian all landing at Stamford Bridge.
