The Denver Nuggets might have to watch the one they got away play for another good team next season.
This offseason has been an undeniable success for the Nuggets. After some major shakeups in the final stages of last season in the front office, Denver has recovered nicely this offseason.
With deals for Jonas Valanciunas, Bruce Brown, Cam Johnson and others, Denver is in a prime position to challenge the Oklahoma City Thunder’s spot at the top of the West next season. However, they might regret letting their top free agent get away when next season comes around.
Russell Westbrook heading East?
In a recent article from Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey, he predicted that the Miami Heat could be an ideal landing spot for Westbrook. With Bailey noting that Miami doesn’t have any true point guards on the roster right now, Westbrook might have a chance to slide into the starting spot.
Although the all-time leader in triple-doubles might be most interested in competing for a championship, there’s a chance that Westbrook could be exactly what Miami needs after it already acquired Norman Powell earlier this summer. With the future Hall of Famer setting up Powell and Tyler Herro on the perimeter and potentially running a lethal pick-and-roll with Bam Adebayo, Westbrook could be the piece that helps the Heat ascend back to the top of the East as other teams in the conference deal with some crushing injuries next season.
It might not be a perfect fit for Westbrook in Miami, but it might not take much for the Nuggets to realize that they made the wrong decision letting him walk.
