The New York Knicks are coming off one of their most successful seasons in a quarter-century.
After losing to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals, they are poised to make another deep postseason run in 2025-26, returning the same core that got them there, along with additions to the bench in Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele.
They still have one roster spot remaining, though, and reports suggest that they have their eyes on a few free agents who are still available. One former NBA veteran strongly urged New York, and the rest of the league, to stay away from a guard who they’ve been linked to in recent weeks.
Jeff Teague Says to Stay Away From Ben Simmons
In a recent episode of the Club 520 podcast, former NBA point guard Jeff Teague warned the league that former No. 1 overall pick Ben Simmons is damaged goods and shouldn’t be a target for any team.
“Yeah, it’s over, bro. Y’all seen him when he was playing? He can’t move anymore…he runs like his back hurts. He’s hurt. I used to always be like Okay, whatever, but no, he’s legit hurt.” Teague said.
“What made him effective was pushing the ball and being dynamic in transition and he can’t do that anymore. Or he doesn’t have the opportunity, like nobody believes it.”
Unfortunately, Teague is right. Ever since Simmons’ back problems began with the Philadelphia 76ers, he has been unable to regain the form that made him an All-NBA player.
After unsuccessful stints with the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Clippers, he remains unsigned, and questions remain if he will end up on another NBA roster before the start of the season.
His agent allegedly cut ties with him this week, further complicating Simmons’ professional basketball future.
The Knicks are reportedly willing to offer Simmons the veteran minimum for their final roster spot, and it seems that if the former LSU star is unable to decide his next steps as of now.
