Former NBA lottery pick still in awe at Damian Lillard’s infamous game-winner against Thunder

As the Milwaukee Bucks open up the postseason against the Indiana Pacers this Saturday, all the focus is on star Damian Lillard’s injury status.

Lillard’s postseason game winners highlight the damage he can cause, highlighted by shots like his viral half-court 3-pointer against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2019 opening round. Former NBA veteran Austin Rivers marveled at this shot on his Eye for the Game podcast.

“I don’t think people understand the insanity to pull this type of shot,” Rivers said. “Paul George is not wrong, dawg. This shot right here? Bro, you are five feet off a sidestep. He has no idea you’re gonna shoot this ball. He talked about it recently on a podcast, he was like, ‘I’m looking at the clock. What is he doing? Is he going to the basket?’ It’s a tie game, you don’t need a three.”

He and Lillard even gave Paul George grace for his defense on the game-winner, who infamously said Lillard was taking a “bad shot.”

“If you miss this shot, people are gonna be like, ‘What the hell is he doing?’ [Enes] Kanter doesn’t even know what’s going on,” Rivers continued.

Lillard has been sidelined for the past three weeks with a blood clot in his right calf. Still one of the highest-scoring players in the league, the Bucks star is averaging 24.9 points on 44.8 percent shooting this season. The Bucks need all the help they can get as they face Indiana for the second consecutive postseason.
