Former NBA guard compares standout Final Four guard to Stephen Curry, Damian Lillard

Every year there is usually one NBA Draft prospect who really boosts his stock in the March Madness tournament. In 2025, that player is obvious.

Walter Clayton Jr. has turned heads in this year’s competition. The Florida guard has been sensational ever since the Round of 64. Clayton Jr. has averaged 24.6 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.6 assists, while shooting 50.0 percent from the field, 48.7 percent from 3-point, and 90.5 percent from the free throw line in the five games played in the tournament.

That kind of scoring production, in particular, has forced some analysts to throw some lofty comparisons out there for the 22-year-old. None will compare to the following one.

“Over the last two days, I’ve probably talked to about six or seven scouts, and a lot of scouts are starting to firmly believe that he could crack the top ten,” Jay Williams told ESPN viewers.

Williams continued, “I could make a case that he could be the second or third pick in the NBA Draft. I know Dylan Harper, I know Ace Bailey, they have a ton of talent. But the run this guy’s on, the shots he makes, combine [Damian] Lillard with Steph Curry, … his game, to me, seems like a marriage between the two.”

Williams did say in his segment on ESPN that he did not know whether Clayton Jr. would ever hit the pinnacle that those two players have in their careers. However, one cannot simply throw out names like Curry and Lillard without expecting people’s eyebrows to be raised.

The Milwaukee Bucks star has dipped a little bit in his player quality since joining the franchise, but overall, it is tough to argue with the level of stardom that Lillard has experienced for the majority of his career. Those are lofty expectations to thrust on a draft prospect.
