Former Man Utd chief scout reveals why Garnacho to Chelsea transfer could happen this summer

Alejandro Garnacho may be swapping red for blue this summer — and not just for a kit refresh.

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown has shared insight into why a move to Chelsea for the young winger could be on the cards.

Garnacho, just 20, has been one of the few bright spots in a shaky season at Old Trafford. But as United look to raise funds, even homegrown stars aren’t safe.

The club is reportedly open to offers for both Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo. Yes, that’s United’s youth plan — now up for bidding.

Chelsea missed out on Garnacho in January but haven’t closed the book. Brown told Football Insider,

“Chelsea’s interest hasn’t gone away. They wanted him in January and they’re still looking to sign a new winger.”

Why Garnacho could reject Chelsea despite Man Utd willing to sell

While Chelsea are circling, Garnacho isn’t just chasing money or a flashy move. He wants minutes. Regular ones.

And with Enzo Maresca’s side already overloaded with wide options, the Argentine is said to be wary of becoming another expensive benchwarmer.

“He will want to play regularly – but look at what’s happened to Jadon Sancho there,” Brown noted. “How many players have they signed with big expectations who have just been on the fringes?”

The concern is clear — Chelsea may look tempting on paper, but the pitch time isn’t guaranteed. Garnacho reportedly turned down both Chelsea and Napoli in January for this reason.

Still, United’s financial situation may force their hand. Brown believes “major offers” could be enough to convince the Red Devils to part ways.

And with United already eyeing Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo as a possible replacement, the groundwork for a summer shuffle is quietly being laid.

United fans will hope they’re not watching another young gem shine somewhere else next season — especially in London blue.
