Former Man United star confirms shock TV punditry exit

Former Manchester United and England star Rio Ferdinand will step away from his TV pundit role with TNT Sports after the UEFA Champions League final.

As part of his post-playing career, Ferdinand joined then-BT Sport in 2013 and has been a regular face for the UK broadcaster, which now operates as TNT Sports.

During his time with TNT Sports, Ferdinand has covered some huge games in the Premier League and multiple UCL finals, but Paris Saint-Germain’s clash with Inter Milan on May 31 will be his final match.

The 46-year-old leaves on good terms – with the door not closed on a return to TNT Sports – as he focuses on other projects in the coming months.

“After 10 incredible years I’ve made the difficult decision to step away from TNT Sports after the Champions League final,” Ferdinand posted on social media.

“Since retiring from football, it’s been a privilege talking about the game I love for over a decade, for sports fans watching on BT Sport and TNT Sports.

“As I turn the page to the next chapter, I carry with me countless memories. I’m excited about what the future holds, spending more time with my family, focusing on Rio Ferdinand Presents and my other business interests.”

His Rio Ferdinand Presents YouTube channel currently has 1.32 million subscribers with the show attracting big-name guests to bolster its profile.

TNT Sports have not offered an update on who could replace Ferdinand for the 2025/26 season amid rumours the company are looking to cut costs across the board.

In April, TNT Sports confirmed they had lost almost £190m [$256m] during its latest financial year, posting a pre-tax loss of £187.5m [$252m] for the 12 months to 31 July 2024, despite an increase in advertising revenue.
