Former Lakers center, lottery pick leaving NBA to join EuroLeague powerhouse

It’s becoming more common for NBA veterans to take their talents overseas after spending multiple years in the big leagues.

On Tuesday, a former Los Angeles Lakers center and lottery pick joined that club, as he signed a multi-year deal with a EuroLeague powerhouse.

“Alex Len has agreed to a multi-year deal with Real Madrid,” HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reported. “Len, the fifth pick of the 2013 NBA Draft, has averaged 6.7 points and 5.3 rebounds during his 12-year career with the Suns, Hawks, Kings, Raptors, Wizards, and Lakers.”

“Huge acquisition in Alex Len for EuroLeague powerhouse Real Madrid. The 32-year-old center also has an NBA opt-out clause for next season in his deal.”

Len was deemed an emergency signing for the Lakers last year after the franchise traded Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks and missed out on Charlotte Hornets center Mark Williams.

However, Len was far from serviceable in a Lakers uniform, contributing only 2.2 points and 3.1 rebounds while shooting 50.8% from the field in 46 regular-season contests.

Len was even less of a factor for the Lakers in the postseason, recording zero points and grabbing only two rebounds in two playoff outings.

Hopefully, Len will find what he’s looking for overseas in his early 30s.
