Barcelona star Lamine Yamal’s sensational start to the season has underlined his status as one of the best players in La Liga.
Despite only turning 17 in July, Lamine Yamal played a key role in Spain’s UEFA Euro 2024 title win, and his form has carried over into the 2024/25 campaign.
The teenager is leading the La Liga assist charts, with nine so far, as Barcelona lead La Liga with the season approaching the half-way point.

His ability in 1 vs. 1 situations makes him on of the most feared players in European football with comparisons already being drawn to La Blaugrana icon Lionel Messi.
Messi has backed up those links by labelling Lamine Yamal as the ‘present, and without a doubt the future’ of Barcelona.
Ahead of tonight’s clash with Leganes, former La Liga defender Juanfran Moreno has claimed Lamine Yamal is already doing things that neither Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo were doing at 17.
“Lamine Yamal is making history. Nobody at 17 has done that in football, not Messi, not Cristiano, not Jesus Christ! We’re seeing a player who today, at this age, is the best player in history,” as per an interview with Relevo.
“He has the ability to handle things in a very natural way. He’s a guy who goes on to the field, and you see him smiling, he doesn’t make faces, he gets kicked, he gets up. We’re looking at a player who is an example on and off the field.
“There are people who are born as a star and he’s a star in every sense.”
As the season progresses, Lamine Yamal will be looking to make more history, with Messi’s season record of 20 La Liga assists (in 2019/20) in his sights in 2025.
