Former Italy icon gives ‘huge’ prediction before Inter vs PSG Champions League showdown

Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain will meet in Munich on May 31 in what will be a landmark UEFA Champions League final—the first under the tournament’s revamped format.

Inter, who last lifted the trophy in 2010 under José Mourinho, are hunting their fourth European crown.

On the other hand, PSG, who have spent over a decade building a superteam through blockbuster signings and big money, are still chasing their first-ever title.

Both teams had contrasting semifinals. Inter stunned Barcelona with a thrilling 7–6 aggregate win, while PSG capitalized on big moments to knock out Arsenal 3–1 over two legs.

Former Italy icon Marco Simone tips Inter’s engine room to change game

Marco Simone, who won two Champions League titles and four Serie A crowns with AC Milan, and also starred for PSG in Ligue 1, believes Inter hold the edge.

Simone, who earned four caps for Italy, sees the Nerazzurri’s structure and squad depth as potential game-changers.

“Inter are a modern team, well-organized and very efficient in their 3-5-2 formation,” Simone told RMC Sport.

“Compared to PSG, I think they have an extra gear, especially in physicality. Players like Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Hakan Çalhanoğlu, despite being over 30, represent the pulsating heart of the Inter midfield.”

“Plus there’s Nicolò Barella, who, despite his small stature, is a concentrated cluster of energy and intensity.”

Simone also sees Inter’s bench strength as a possible decider if the match extends beyond regular time.

“It’s not just about the starting players. Those who come off the bench maintain the same physical and tactical level for the team. And that can be crucial if the game goes beyond 90 minutes.”

“In that sense, I do believe Inter can have more weapons at their disposal for the final than PSG. Inter have two teams today—we see it in Serie A and the Champions League, where they can change six, seven, even eight players.”

“I’m not 100% sure if PSG did the same thing, they would have similar results.”
