Former Colts quarterback has urgent message for Anthony Richardson

The Colts’ quarterback battle between Anthony Richardson Sr. and Daniel Jones is trudging along.

Richardson, the incumbent, is facing pressure to defend his starting position as his first two seasons have been less than memorable.

The Colts have not made a decision on a Week 1 starter just yet. Their unofficial depth chart lists both quarterbacks as starters since both will play “a good amount” in their preseason opener against the Ravens this Thursday, despite head coach Shane Steichen not officially naming a starter just yet.

With things heating up as preseason rolls on,  former Colts quarterback Dan Orlovsky sees an opportunity for Richardson to prove that he belongs. While discussing five young quarterbacks with lots to prove in 2025, Orlovsky wants to see Richardson live up to his price tag.

“Dude, you’re a fourth pick,” Orlovsky said on ESPN’s First Take. “You’ve got a really good offensive line. Tyler Warren selected. This year, stay healthy, be a tough guy, and go get the job done. Not only win the starting quarterback job, but be the guy in Indianapolis that, when they drafted you fourth and some of us believed in your talent, they were right in doing so.”

Regardless of who starts in Baltimore, there is no telling who’s ahead of who in the quarterback competition. Both passers have split reps in practices and are expected to have an equal amount of playing time in preseason contests.

Regardless, Richardson needs to have a sense of urgency, or his career could spiral out of control.
