When the Chicago Bears drafted Justin Fields out of Ohio State with the 11th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the hope was for him to become their franchise quarterback.
Instead, in unfortunate Bears fashion, Fields didn’t perform at the level anybody was hoping for, and spent just three years in Chicago before joining the Pittsburgh Steelers.
A free agent this offseason, Fields took his talents to the New York Jets and will have an immense amount of pressure to compete in another city that expects the most out of its players, like Chicago.
And for some, they don’t believe Fields will be able to live up to the hype, including Pro Football Network, which predicted that the Jets will have the second overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft and replace the former Bears quarterback with LaNorris Sellers out of South Carolina.
“Though LaNorris Sellers isn’t the consensus QB1 in the 2026 class, he might have the best physical tools of any quarterback in college football. He’s strong-armed, athletic, tough to sack, and more accurate than he gets credit for,” Infante said.

Sellers was excellent at USC last year, throwing for 18 touchdowns and rushing for seven.
If Fields doesn’t perform at the level he’s hoping for in New York, it’s tough to get a feel for where his career might end up.
He might be better suited as a backup quarterback, but he also had a decent year with the Steelers last season before being benched when Russell Wilson returned from an injury. Fields threw for 1,1006 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception.
His ability to make plays on the ground is also enticing for any team, making it possible that he’ll find some success with the Jets.
