Former Bayern Munich coach urges Nick Woltemade to follow Florian Wirtz’s footsteps

It has been a rough summer transfer window for Bayern Munich as they have only managed a couple of free transfers until now.

They desperately need a few attacking reinforcements, and despite monitoring several talented wingers, they have struggled to make a move for any of them.

The Bavarians received their biggest setback when Florian Wirtz rejected them and joined Liverpool as the British record signing.

Even after Wirtz, Bayern have struggled to convince players to move to Bavaria. Just when there was some optimism around Nick Woltemade’s move, Stuttgart slapped a whopping  €80m asking fee.

Recently, former Bayern Munich and Stuttgart coach Felix Magath shared some words of wisdom for the 23-year-old German striker.

He advised Woltemade to focus on growth and development before rushing to any big decision. Magath wants Woltemade to take his time just like Wirtz did.

“I can certainly understand that, and it’s obviously the right approach for FC Bayern Munich to bring in an interesting, young, German player, since the big transfer of Florian Wirtz didn’t come to fruition. That’s not good for the Bundesliga, and it wasn’t good for FC Bayern. In my opinion, the strategic decision is the right one,” Magath stated in an interview with Sky Sports Germany.

“But whether and to what extent a player who has played one season in the Bundesliga is already at the point where he can strengthen FC Bayern Munich is a question that will be decided on the coach’s back, whether and how he can integrate him.

“He’s not a finished player yet. My concern is that all this hype will put a strain on him – and that he might not be able to properly assess things and will have difficulty maintaining his consistent performance next season.”

What did Magath say about Florian Wirtz’s move to Liverpool?

Bayern have been monitoring Wirtz for the last few seasons, and they went all-in in bringing him to Bavaria. But he was impressed by the Liverpool project led by manager Arne Slot.

Magath was highly impressed by Wirtz’s attitude of staying at Bayer Leverkusen until his development was complete. He wants Woltemade to follow a similar route.

“I take my hat off to Florian Wirtz, who, in my opinion, has done very, very well. Unlike many others, he has completed his development at Leverkusen.”

“From a sporting perspective, I completely understand that, and perhaps such a young player should take a leaf out of his book. If [Woltemade] were to complete his development in Stuttgart for another year or two, he would still have enough time to earn even more money at Bayern or elsewhere.”

Bayern are focused on securing the services of the 23-year-old versatile forward, who has agreed personal terms with the German champions.

As per reports, the Bavarians are open to offering him a five-year contract worth €7.5 million per year (£6.4m/$8.7m), which could increase to €10 million with bonuses.

But Bayern are adamant to sign him for anything in the region of €50m ($59m). They are unwilling to match Stuttgart’s lofty demands.
