Manchester City are all fired up in the ongoing summer transfer window and have already made multiple signings ahead of the upcoming Club World Cup.
One of the most promising signings by Man City has been Dutch star Tijjani Reijnders. The 26-year-old made the move to the Etihad from AC Milan on a five-year deal reportedly worth £46.5 million.
Reijnders turned heads with his performances for AC Milan in the 2024-24 season, netting 15 goals and providing five assists in 54 appearances.
As Reijnders arrives at Man City with everyone having high expectations from him, former Aston Villa star Nigel Reo-Coker has stated that the Dutchman reminds him of Premier League legend Frank Lampard.
What did Nigel Reo-Coker say about new Man City signee Tijjani Reijnders?
Lampard has been widely regarded as one of the best Premier League has ever witnessed. After starting his playing career with West Ham United, the English midfielder has also been a part of Chelsea, and Man City, establishing himself as a legend of the game.
Lampard has scored 177 goals in 609 appearances in the Premier League.

While speaking on CBS Sports, Reo-Coker regarded (comments via Manchester City News) Reijnders’ signing for Man City as ‘the one that stands out.’
“When I look at the signing so far, I would say for me, the one that stands out, who has the right attributes to be impactful instantly in the Premier League, is Reijnders,” he said.
“Reijnders, for me, is a goal-scoring midfielder who doesn’t need to get too involved in the play, and luckily, they’ve got Rodri coming back in now, that’s going to be his job. He’s going to be the one that dictates the pace for Manchester City, getting the ball off the back line, making these little passes,” added Reo-Coker.
The pundit further mentioned that Reijnders got some of the ‘best qualities’ of Lampard as a ‘goal-scoring midfielder.’
“All Reijnders has to do is use the players around him and get into the box and add goals to his game, if I would say, and I like to say this, but America don’t like it that much. He reminds me of Frank Lampard, a goal-scoring midfielder,” said Reo-Coker.
“I’m not saying they’re the same player, but the impact he’ll have on arriving, on time, late into the box, which were the best qualities of Frank Lampard. For me, he’s got that little bit that you could say, late arrivals, and we’ll get goals in the Premier League,” he concluded.
Reijnders has been named in Man City’s squad for the Club World Cup, and Pep Guardiola & Co. are set to face Moroccan side Wydad AC in their first match on June 18 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
