Former Arsenal and Chelsea forward poised to leave Saudi side

Saudi Pro League side Al Qadsiah are in talks with striker Pierre‑Emerick Aubameyang over a mutual termination of his contract, just one year after he joined the club from Marseille.

The former Arsenal and Chelsea forward made an immediate impact upon his arrival last summer, scoring 21 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions.

He played a key role in Al Qadsiah’s King’s Cup run, scoring in every round he featured in, including the winner in the semifinal and a goal in the final.

Despite his strong contributions on the pitch, discussions are now underway to bring his time in Saudi Arabia to an early end. Sources close to the situation suggest that both Aubameyang and the club are open to parting ways, if a mutual agreement can be reached.

Aubameyang, 36, has enjoyed a prolific career spanning several top clubs. He made his name at Borussia Dortmund before moving to Arsenal in 2018, where he became club captain and led them to FA Cup success in 2020. After a brief but successful spell at Barcelona, he joined Chelsea, although his time at Stamford Bridge was short and largely underwhelming.

Where could Aubameyang go next?

His Arsenal exit in particular was marked by a high-profile fallout with manager Mikel Arteta, with the forward later speaking candidly about the emotional toll it took on him. In a recent interview, Aubameyang told The Athletic:

“I started drinking a lot… I was depressed. He [Arteta] said I gave him a knife in his back; I don’t know why he said that. I was really p***ed off because it was not true and he knew why I flew.”

The trip in question involved Aubameyang returning late from France after caring for his ill mother, a decision he stands by:

“When I’m late, I always said sorry. But in this case, I’ll never say sorry. For taking my mum from Laval to London? No.”

Should the termination be finalised, Aubameyang would become a free agent and may weigh up a return to European football or a new challenge elsewhere.
