Former Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper has announced he will be retiring from the NFL after re-signing with the Las Vegas Raiders a few weeks ago.
Ian Rapoport is reporting that despite his reuniting with the Raiders, he just doesn’t have the desire to play anymore.
Cooper was the first-round draft pick of the Raiders back in 2015 and played the majority of his career there before moving on to the Dallas Cowboys, then the Cleveland Browns, the Buffalo Bills last season, and back with the Raiders this season.
Cooper may not have the desire to go through another rebuilding period with the Raiders, which may be why he decided to just retire.
During his time as a pro, Cooper amassed over 10,000 yards and 64 touchdowns, with his best years coming with the Browns. Just two years ago, Cooper had over 1200 yards receiving and five touchdowns. The year before that, he had the most touchdowns in his career with nine.
During his time with Alabama in 2014, he was a unanimous All-American, SEC Offensive Player of the Year, and he also won the Biletnikoff Award that season and finished third in the Heisman. He also won a national championship.
Cooper, who is from the Miami area, turned down offers from several schools, including his hometown Miami Hurricanes and Ohio State, to sign with Alabama.
He had 3400 yards in his career at Alabama with 31 touchdowns, his most memorable being a 99-yard touchdown against Auburn in the Iron Bowl.
