Football pundit backs Chelsea star to win Player of the Year for the upcoming season

Ahead of the new Premier League season, football pundit Pat Nevin is confident that a Chelsea star is about to have a great campaign and has tipped him to win the Player of the Year award.

The fact that people are discussing Chelsea as possible challengers for the Premier League title is a testament to how far the Blues have come in just one season under Enzo Maresca.

Though Chelsea have a range of talented players in their squad, the Italian manager must be credited for figuring out his best team and bringing out the best in them.

Chelsea go into the new season with momentum as they won the UEFA Conference League and the Club World Cup last season.

Fans and pundits now expect the young team to go a step further and challenge for the Premier League title.

However, Chelsea’s performance in the league will depend heavily on the showings of one player in particular, Cole Palmer.

Pat Nevin tips Cole Palmer for Premier League Player of the Year

According to Pat Nevin, Chelsea star Cole Palmer, 23, could be in for a big season at Stamford Bridge.

He tipped the attacking midfielder to be the Premier League’s best player in the 2025/26 campaign.

Ever since his move to Stamford Bridge in 2023, Palmer has established himself as the talisman for the team, so it’s easy to see why Nevin is backing him for individual glory this season.

When asked to predict the Premier League Player of the Year, Nevin told the BBC Football Extra newsletter “Cole Palmer. With quality new strikers ahead of him to find and Estevao already on his wavelength so he doesn’t have to bear the entire load, Cole will be freed. He also ended last season and has started this pre-season looking back to his best.”

In 97 games across all competitions for Chelsea so far this season, Palmer has managed 43 goals and 29 assists, winning two trophies along the way.

Once again, his performances will go a long way in determining Chelsea’s fate in the upcoming season.
