Flyers, Oilers predicted to battle for $7 million free agent goalie

Jake Allen finds himself in a good position.

The free agent goalie steps into a market without much in the category of starting-caliber, something Allen has been for much of his career.

It’ll be a bit of a bidding war for him, to be sure.

Pro Hockey Rumors provides two insights on Allen’s free agency: He should command a contract of two years at $3.5 million per year, and the Philadelphia Flyers and Edmonton Oilers will be two of the teams in the mix.

The 34-year old Allen would be a possible upgrade for both teams.

The Flyers would be looking to replace Samuel Ersson and Ivan Fedotov, neither of whom came close to a 90% save percentage in 2024-25.

The Oilers made it to the Stanley Cup Finals, but both Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard were exposed as flawed netminders.

Allen spent this past winter playing for the Devils. He made 29 starts and went 13-16-1, counting an additional relief appearance.

The 12-year veteran saved 90.6% of the shots against him with a 2.66 goals against average. Those are right in line with his career averages.

Allen played seven years with the Blues, then four in Montreal before the last two in New Jersey.

Now, he’s shaping up to find a new home, and it could be a key piece of business in the NHL offseason.
