Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant is likely on the move this summer.
That’s not new information, but what remains a mystery is where KD will land.
Teams with both young talent and a stockpile of draft picks are best positioned to move to the front of the line as Phoenix fields offers for KD.
On the other hand, teams lacking either enticing rising stars or picks are probably out of luck. That can help us narrow down the field a bit.
From a fan perspective, no one seems to focus on the picks being traded in these blockbuster deals. It’s more interesting, at least in the present, to think about the players changing teams.
With that in mind, here are a couple of KD trade ideas in terms of the players being swapped, with no mention of which specific picks would be landing with the Suns. According to Spotrac, all of the following trades work financially.

1. Durant to the San Antonio Spurs
Phoenix receives…
- Stephon Castle
- Keldon Johnson
- Harrison Barnes (expiring)
This deal would bolster Phoenix’s depth with young talent (headlined by Castle) and a veteran forward in Barnes.
However, it’s probably a bad trade for San Antonio. Rookie of the Year Castle displayed superstar potential in 2024-25 with his defensive prowess and playmaking. Durant, nearing 37, has only a few elite years left and doesn’t align with Victor Wembanyama’s timeline.
Trading a rising star like Castle for an aging Durant risks stunting the Spurs’ rebuild, prioritizing short-term gains over sustainable success around their generational center.
But where else could Durant land? Find out below.
