As the PGA Tour heads to Silvis, Illinois for this week’s John Deere Classic, the field has shifted with a few late changes before the tournament begins on July 3 at TPC Deere Run.
The excitement from last weekend’s Rocket Mortgage Classic is still fresh, where 20-year-old Aldrich Potgieter earned his first PGA Tour victory in a thrilling playoff. Now, the focus turns to this week’s event, but the lineup has taken a small hit. On Sunday, it was announced that Norman Xiong, Danny Walker, and Aaron Baddeley have all withdrawn from the tournament.

Their exits have created openings for three new players. Zac Blair, Matt NeSmith, and James Hahn have been added to the field. All three were listed as alternates and now have an unexpected opportunity to make their mark at one of the PGA Tour’s more open and youth-friendly events.
PGA Tour Names in the Event
Despite the withdrawals, the field remains strong with emerging names and a few familiar faces. Defending champion Davis Thompson is back and will try to repeat his 2024 win. Jason Day is also a main attraction at the event. They will be joined by promising young players such as Luke Clanton, Michael La Sasso, Jackson Koivun, and David Ford.
One of the biggest storylines will be Potgieter. The young South African became the youngest player from his country to win on the PGA Tour and now looks to carry that momentum into this week’s event.
The John Deere Classic has a history of producing breakout performances. Although a few players have stepped away, the additions bring new energy to the tournament. With The Open Championship starting on July 17, this week offers an important tune-up for those hoping to sharpen their form.
By Sunday, a new name may emerge into the spotlight.
