It was a very interesting campaign, and one cannot simply single out the best player from the recently concluded season. However, after Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League triumph, Ousmane Dembele has emerged as one of the top candidates to win the Ballon d’Or this year.
But a certain section of the fans still believe that, courtesy of Lamine Yamal’s heroics for Barcelona this season, he deserves his crowning moment.
While many players, coaches and pundits have had their say on the Ballon d’Or this year, Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez also had his say in a recent interview with Tu Diras de RAC1.
The 22-year-old midfielder feels that Yamal is an outstanding talent, and he feels happy that he dons the Blaugrana colours. He highlights how Yamal has been performing in crucial Champions League matches and feels that the 17-year-old deserves the award.
“The level he’s shown at his age in Champions League matches… it is spectacular. What he has shown throughout the year is worthy of the Ballon d’Or,” Fermin opined.
The Spanish midfielder also cautioned the fans not to put much pressure on the young winger. “Let him continue enjoying himself and playing the way he does.”

“I’m not thinking about leaving or anything like that. I’m very happy at Barça. It was my dream, and I obviously want to stay.”
Fermin is not much bothered about the competition at the club and feels it is all healthy. “It’s very healthy and we all understand it.”
The 22-year-old midfielder featured in 46 matches this season, but only got 19 starts and still scored eight goals and provided nine assists across all competitions. He was pivotal to Flick’s plans, especially in the second half of tight games when he needed Fermin’s guile and creativity.
