FC Barcelona to play first home game of the season at Estadi Johan Cruyff

FC Barcelona is yet to officially announce where their first home game of the season will be. Reports in Spain suggest that Barcelona has three options to choose from.

The three stadiums Barcelona has as options are the Spotify Camp Nou, Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium, and the Estadi Johann Cruyff, where the Joan Gamper Trophy Final was played this summer.

The Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium was the stadium where Barcelona played home games over the last two seasons. It is the backup option for Barcelona this season in case the Camp Nou is not approved.

Recent reports suggest that Camp Nou will be approved to host home games, but not as soon as Barcelona expected. Barcelona’s first home game of the season is against Valencia on September 14.

With less than two weeks until the fixture, Spain outlets suggest that the Barcelona vs Valencia match on September 14th will likely be played at the Johan Cruyff Stadium.

Will Barcelona face issues if La Liga game is played at Johan Cruyff Stadium?

Mundo Deportivo reports that La Liga has allowed Barcelona to host the match against Valencia at the Johan Cruyff Stadium as long as they install the necessary VAR cameras.

The capacity of the stadium will also not be an issue, despite only holding up to 6,000 fans.

There is hope for Barcelona to play their home games at Spotify Camp Nou for the majority of the season. Mundo Deportivo reports that the construction work on the Camp Nou keeps advancing.

The final decision on where the first home match is to be played will be on Monday, September 8. The likely outcome is Johan Cruyff Stadium with 6,000 fans, but Camp Nou could still be possible.
