Extremely bold Pistons trade idea makes team possible favorite in Eastern Conference

The Detroit Pistons might be one move away from title contention. They put up a great fight in the playoffs and are looking like one of the best young teams in the league. Pistons’ rumors are implying that the team might not stand pat this offseason and look for a move to improve their roster. One player that would be a dream pickup for the Pistons would be Kevin Durant. Durant trade rumors are all over the internet, and nobody is quite sure where he will end up next season. We played around in the NBA trade machine to see if we could make a Durant-Pistons trade work.

Our Pistons trade machine idea looks like this:

Pistons Receive: Kevin Durant

Phoenix Suns Receive: Tobias Harris, Ron Holland, Jalen Duren, Marc Sasser, and two first-round picks

This Pistons-Durant trade idea gives Detroit a veteran superstar to pair with Cade Cunningham. They would instantly have one of the most potent duos in the Eastern Conference and maybe even the NBA. Durant would also be the veteran presence that could teach this young Pistons roster how to contend for a championship.

Although this may seem like a lot to give up to land Durant, they would lose depth for more top-end talent.

Jalen Duren and Ron Holland are still young with a lot of upside, but both are replaceable as role players on a great team. Getting rid of only two first-round picks seems like a fair addition. The Pistons should be a playoff team as long as Cunningham continues his star trajectory, making losing these picks hurt less.

Monitor the Pistons rumors this summer, although they may want to continue to grow with their young squad, they could make a bold trade like this to try and maximize their potential for next season.
