The Philadelphia Eagles learned Sunday that they will be hosting the Green Bay Packers next week during the NFL’s Super Wild-Card Weekend.
They learned late Sunday night that they will be avoiding the Detroit Lions, at least until a potential matchup in the NFC Championship Game.
No. 2 Philadelphia will face No. 7 Green Bay on Sunday (4:30 p.m., FOX), and a second win this season over Matt LaFleur, Jordan Love and the Packers would open up multiple scenarios for the divisional round. The Eagles beat the Packers, 34-29, in Brazil way back in the first week of the regular season.

The Lions, by virtue of the No. 1 seed, will face the worst seeded team that comes out of wild-card weekend. That means they’ll dodge both the Eagles and third-seeded Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the divisional round.
The Eagles, meanwhile, have three potential second-round opponents, should they take care of business in Round 1 against the Packers:
Scenario No. 1: Buccaneers win
If Tampa Bay beats No. 6 Washington at home on Sunday, Monday night’s game between No. 4 Los Angeles and No. 5 Minnesota becomes moot for Philadelphia.
Wins by both the Eagles and Bucs would lock down a divisional round meeting between the two teams at Lincoln Financial Field. That would be quite the matchup for Philly, which not only was eliminated by the Bucs in last year’s playoffs, but lost to them in Week 4 of this 2024 season, 33-16, at Raymond James Stadium.
In this scenario, the Lions would host the Vikings-Rams winner.
Scenario No. 2: Commanders upset
Philly’s path changes if their NFC East rival Commanders pull off the first-round upset.
If the Eagles beat Green Bay, and Washington defeats Tampa Bay on the road on Sunday night, the Commanders would be heading to Detroit for the second round. In that scenario, the Eagles would host the Vikings-Rams winner in the divisional round at the Linc.
Scenario No. 3: Eagles wins, Lions loss
The playoff rooting guide for Eagles fans is simple: Hope the Lions get caught in the second round.
If that happens, the NFC playoffs would run through the Linc, assuming the Eagles can protect their home turf over these next two weeks.
Otherwise, a potential NFC Championship Game against the Lions at Ford Field would stand in the way of Philly reaching the Super Bowl for the second time in three years.
