Former Padres infielder Freddy Galvis is saying goodbye to “The Show.”
Galvis took to social media Thursday to officially announce his retirement from professional baseball.
Mainly a shortstop, Galvis hasn’t seen action in Major League Baseball is the 2021 season, which saw him in the midst of his second career stint with the Philadelphia Philles.
The infielder only played one season in San Diego, in 2018, during which he provided a quiet amount of offensive support for the team, batting a .248 average with 13 homers and 67 runs batted in, just a year before the Padres picked up Manny Machado in a blockbuster deal and before the debut of current star Fernando Tatis Jr.
Galvis’ career stats read a .248 batting average with 109 home runs and 426 runs batted in over a 10-year career in the MLB.
Following his departure from Philadelphia the second time in 2021, Galvis would take to the Nippon Professional Baseball with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks, and then the Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos in the Mexican League, batting .269 with six home runs and 43 runs batted in the 2024 season, which ended up being his final professional season.
In his Instagram post announcing his retirement, Galvis thanked his family, friends, coaches, agents, as well as the Padres, Phillies, Toronto Blue Jays, Cincinnati Reds, Baltimore Orioles, and his two international teams for his career.
