While the Dallas Mavericks lucked out in a sense during the NBA lottery, securing the No. 1 overall pick and having the opportunity to select Cooper Flagg, it doesn’t detract from what Nico Harrison has done in the past.
Frankly, when the Mavericks win a championship again one day, even if that’s with Flagg on the roster, many still won’t forgive him for what he did with Luka Doncic.
Doncic was a fan favorite, and some Mavericks fans thought they could love him in the same way they loved Dirk Nowitzki.
No matter how good Flagg is, or if Anthony Davis is one of the best players in the world, Mavericks fans won’t forget about what he did.
When speaking about that, Sam Mitchell, a former Coach of the Year in 2007, noted that no fan will ever forgive Harrison for his decisions, and that’s something he’ll have to continue to live with despite the addition of Flagg.
“Cooper Flagg, man. I think he’s the real deal. I’m excited for Dallas. He’s not gonna make people forget Luka, but the way this team has the ability to win and the fact that Cooper Flagg is gonna be a different kind of a star for the Dallas Mavericks,” Mitchell said. “I think these fans are gonna be all in.”

All of Mitchell’s comments here are fair. It’s also important to suggest that Flagg might not be Doncic on the court.
While he does some other little things that Doncic doesn’t, Flagg has a lot to prove in the NBA before he can even be considered in that upper echelon of players in the league.
