Former Cleveland Guardians pitcher Cal Quantrill has been placed on waivers by the Miami Marlins, per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
It’s been a rough go on the mound for Quantrill this season, as he’s sporting a 5.50 ERA this season in 24 starts. He has really struggled in the month of August, holding an ERA of 11.25 and just five strikeouts in 12 innings of work.
Quantrill experienced the most success with the Guardians
Quantrill pitched for the Guardians for four seasons from 2020-2023. During this time frame, he experienced the most success of his Major League career, pitching to a 27-15 record with a 3.58 ERA during his time with the team. His best season came in 2021 when he was 8-3 with a 2.89 ERA in 40 appearances (22 starts). The next season, he was 15-5 with a 3.38 ERA as a full-time starter.
After his time with Cleveland, he spent the 2024 season with the Colorado Rockies before landing in Miami with the Marlins this season.
Quantrill will now look for a new home as a team will certainly take a chance on the 30-year-old thanks to his previous track record of success. With the Marlins still well outside the playoff picture, a change of scenery could be beneficial to Quantrill as he tries to unlock what once made him a solid middle of the rotation arm.
