Brendan Rodgers has been a part of the Houston Astros for a staggering five months now.
And that might be all that his tenure in H-Town consists of.
The infielder is currently on the 10-day IL with an oblique strain, but his stats especially on offense this year have not exactly been something to write home about, and there is a good chance that Rodgers could find himself being traded out of Houston by the time the MLB trade deadline rolls around on July 31.
In the 115 at-bats that Rodgers has taken this year, he has only garnered 22 hits, including a pair of home runs and 11 runs batted in, all rounding out to a disappointing .191 batting average.
The second baseman has had to deal with his fair share of injury troubles, only playing in 181 games over the past two seasons combined, and the highest batting average he’s boasted was a .284 in 2021 while he was still with the Colorado Rockies.
However, if a team is looking for purely defensive prowess, then that is where Rodgers could be an asset, as he was awarded a Gold Glove in 2022 for his work while in Colorado.
In 2024, Rodgers played a quiet role in the Rockies lineup, hitting .267 while scoring 134 hits, 13 home runs, and 54 runs batted in while taking ball four 31 times.
The second baseman has the potential to be a good hitter, but with his injury and recent season struggles, whoever ends up with Rodgers after July 31, be it the Astros or anyone else will simply have to wait that out.
