Arguably the best coach in the National Football League has been linked to the Dallas Cowboys at times.
There have been questions about whether or not Dallas would bring Mike McCarthy back to town in 2025. As some have speculated whether or not McCarthy would be back, legendary head coach Bill Belichick has been floated as a fit at times.
While this is the case, he’s now off the market.
Belichick made the surprise move to take over the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s football program. The eight-time Super Bowl champion inked a five-year deal with UNC.
The university announced Belichick in a press conference on Thursday and he announced that his “first hire” as the coach of UNC would be to hire interim head coach Freddie Kitchens, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
“UNC interim HC Freddie Kitchens will be the ‘first hire’ for Bill Belichick’s coaching staff, Belichick says,” Garafolo shared.
Kitchens has spent most of his coaching career in college but also has spent time at the National Football League level. He began his coaching career with Glenville State in 1999 and spent time with LSU, North Texas, and Mississippi State before being named the Cowboys’ tight ends coach in 2006.
Since then, he also has spent time with the Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, University of South Carolina, and at UNC. He joined UNC as the tight ends coach and running game coordinator and now is the interim head coach.
It sounds like the former Cowboys coach will have a role with the team with Belichick as the head coach.
