Malcolm Brogdon is an above-average professional, and the Boston Celtics found that out firsthand.
There’s even a strong argument to be made that Brogdon was the perfect player for what the Celtics needed, as he was a valuable backup point guard who could run the offense with the starting or second unit.
However, despite winning the Sixth Man of the Year Award, the Celtics eventually decided to part ways with him, something that’s been common throughout Brogdon’s career.
He’s now played for the Milwaukee Bucks, Indiana Pacers, Celtics, Portland Trail Blazers, and Washington Wizards. All signs point to him joining another team this offseason, too, but it remains uncertain which one that might be.

When searching for which team that could be, CBS Sports’ James Herbert believes there’s an argument for the New York Knicks to sign him, adding that after extending Mikal Bridges, they still have to find a player to fill their roster.
“The Knicks added Guerschon Yabusele and Jordan Clarkson, but they still have only 12 players under contract. No. 51 pick Mohamed Diawara will sign with New York rather than staying in Cholet, according to the French team, but that could be a two-way contract,” Herbert wrote.
“Could Ben Simmons be an option? He’s been linked to the Knicks, and, if coach Mike Brown wants to play faster and diversify the offense, maybe he’s worth a shot. It would be simpler to integrate a playmaker like Malcolm Brogdon, though, and three guards who finished the season in New York —Cameron Payne, Landry Shamet and Delon Wright — remain unsigned. Precious Achiuwa is still out there, too.”
As a backup guard, depending on what his health looks like, Brogdon would be an intriguing addition to the Knicks.
He likely isn’t a good enough player to sway a playoff series at this point, but if he can eat regular-season minutes, it’d be an ideal pairing for both sides.
