Even Jeopardy! contestants baffled by New York Jets’ embarrassing drought

It’s been a rough 55 years for the New York Jets, and unfortunately, this season will end no differently.

At 4-10 overall, the Jets will miss the playoffs for the 14th consecutive season. In addition to the postseason drought, New York’s Super Bowl drought lasts at least one more year.

The Jets’ woes have become so significant that they landed Gang Green in a featured spot on national television’s long-running quiz show Jeopardy!

Making the Jets the subject for the Final Jeopardy! question on Thursday night’s episode, the scriptwriters put the organization’s history of failure into stunning perspective.

“It’s the only team to play in the Super Bowl before Neil Armstrong’s Moon Walk that has not been back to the big game since” read the Final Jeopardy! answer in the “Super Bowl History” category.

Arguably even more amazing than the Jets’ long-running ineptitude are the responses from the three Jeopardy! contestants. None of the three asked the correct question of “Who are the New York Jets?”

The responses were “Who is the Cleveland Browns?” followed by “What is Giants?” followed by “What is Houston?”

Meanwhile, the Jets’ lone Super Bowl appearance came in the third-ever AFL-NFL Championship Game on January 12, 1969. Six months after Joe Namath led New York to a 16-7 victory over the mighty Baltimore Colts, the Apollo 11 mission landed men on the Moon.
