The transfer noise surrounding Jorrel Hato’s potential move to Chelsea is getting louder with each passing day.
Earlier this week, it was claimed that Chelsea have agreed personal terms with the young defender, so now it is up to the clubs to agree a fee for the player.
Hato, a defender who can play at left back or at centre-back, is exactly the kind of player that the Blues need to sign to reduce the workload on full-back Marc Cucurella next season.
The Spanish full-back Cucurella played an incredible number of games last season since Chelsea did not have a like-for-like replacement for him.
More importantly, the need for the Blues to add more depth to their defence is accentuated by the fact that they will be playing multiple competitions in the upcoming season, including the Champions League.
But Chelsea have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Hato as Ajax have rejected their opening bid for the young defender.

Ajax reject Chelsea’s opening bid for Jorrel Hato
According to ESPN, Dutch giants Ajax have rejected Chelsea’s first bid for Hato.
It has been revealed that the Blues made a ‘serious offer’ for the 19-year-old defender, but ‘Ajax’s management’ have sent back a counter-offer because they don’t want to let him go without a fight.
Even though they would prefer to keep their academy graduate, they are considering the player’s desire to leave.
Despite still being a teenager, Hato has played an incredible 111 first-team matches for Ajax. He’s got six senior international caps for the Netherlands, too.
If Chelsea do manage to secure Hato’s signature, Chelsea fans could be optimistic about a really positive season ahead.
