Chelsea are in the middle of a squad overhaul in the ongoing summer transfer window, and one player that every Chelsea fan worried about how the club would sell was Joao Felix.
The Portuguese star failed to nail down a place for himself in Enzo Maresca’s side and was loaned out to AC Milan where he has faced criticism from the media for his performances.
In this situation, it would have been hard for the Blues to find a potential suitor for the former Atletico Madrid man.
But if a report by Portuguese outlet Record is to be believed, Felix’s former side, Benfica, are in advanced talks to bring the attacker back to the club. He previously left the Liga Portugal side back in 2019.
The report goes on to say that a move back to the club has never been closer than it is now, as Chelsea look for a permanent end to what could end up being a long-term nightmare.
Chelsea owner Todd Boehly inherited a similar issue when he took over the club regarding the future of Romelu Lukaku; however, this time the problem has been brought upon himself.

Why a return to Benfica makes sense for Felix
Unlike his troubled times at Chelsea, Felix was flourishing during his time in Portugal with Benfica.
He played just one season for the first team before his big-money move to Atletico Madrid, however, this campaign saw him provide the best numbers of his career so far.
He scored 20 goals in all competitions whilst providing another seven assists, and a move to familiar settings could be exactly what he needs to revitalise his career.
Given his record at Benfica and the comfort of playing at home, a return to his home country may well be the best thing for Felix.
