New York Knicks All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns is coming off of arguably the best season of his career in 2025. Towns averaged 24.4 points, 12.8 rebounds and was named to the All-NBA Third Team.
Despite that, ESPN NBA Analyst Kendrick Perkins doesn’t think KAT has reached his full potential, and offered an unorthodox recommendation for the Knicks’ big man.
Speaking on Perk Unplugged, Perkins said that in order for Towns to hit another gear as a player, he will first need to lose some weight.
“Karl-Anthony Towns, if I was you, I’d go lose me about 15 pounds,” Perkins said. “You get 15 pounds off of you, bro, and you stay consistent… It’s going to be smoke. Boy, you going to be ready. I’m telling y’all, man. I’m looking forward.”
Towns was officially listed at 248 pounds last season with the Knicks. Perkins’ comments are rather ironic given the fact that during his own playing career, he played at a listed weight of 270 pounds, which earned him the nickname “Big Perk.”
Perkins made it clear that his recommendation is not based on optics, and more so on optimizing his defensive potential under Mike Brown, and that Towns’ conditioning is the reason for his lackluster defense this past season.
