Erling Haaland claims Manchester derby to be ‘perfect’ time to ‘turn things around’ for City

Manchester City are set to host Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium in their fourth Premier League clash of the campaign on September 14.

City have not made a perfect start to the 2025-26 season, with two losses and only one victory in the top flight so far, which ranks them 13th in the league table.

City are now headed to the first Manchester derby of the season, and would be looking for a win over their historic archrivals, United.

Ahead of this significant clash, Man City talisman Erling Haaland candidly admitted that his team’s recent performances have been ‘way too bad,’ while mentioning that ‘it’s perfect to turn things around against United.’

What did Erling Haaland say about Man City’s upcoming derby?

While addressing Man City’s consecutive defeats in the past weeks, Haaland stated that they ‘can’t afford to lose games’ and told Viaplay,

“We’ve lost two games in a row, it’s not good enough, it’s way too bad. We need to figure it out, get back to winning ways. We can’t afford to lose games as there’s so many good teams. It’s perfect to turn things around against United. We need to all be on our best, get our asses going, get things going, because it’s not been good enough so far,” as per The Guardian.

“Losing’s not cool. It’s annoying you need to use it for something positive. As motivation to do better the next game, and I expect that we are. We need to use the angriness inside us out on the pitch to deliver at our highest level.”

With head coach Pep Guardiola having a long list of injuries, including Omar Marmoush, Rayan Ait-Nouri, and Rayan Cherki, among others, ahead of the Manchester derby, it remains to be seen if Man City are able to ‘get back to winning ways’ this Sunday.
