Enzo Maresca makes decision on forgotten Chelsea man’s future

David Datro Fofana is firmly a forgotten man at Chelsea, having not played a game for the first team since 2023.

Since signing from Molde in January 2023, Fofana has made only three Premier League appearances for the club, with just one as a starter.

His chances of featuring for Chelsea in the 2025/26 campaign have depleted even further, based on the summer arrivals of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro, and an exit looks almost certain.

Th Ivory Coast international was not part of Enzo Mareca’s plans last season, as he spent the campaign on loan at Turkish Super Lig side Goztepe, before returning in June.

With several players heading for the exit door at Stamford Bridge, Maresca is desperate to move Fofana on, but the club will likely need to take a loss on the 22-year-old.

Maresca has developed a reputation for making tough decisions on unwanted players but selling a misfiring striker is never easy.

Enzo Maresca tells David Datro Fofana he can leave

According to TEAMtalk, Maresca wants to offload Fofana before the end of the transfer window, and he is on the hunt for interested parties.

Along with Delap and Joao Pedro, Maresca can also call on Nicolas Jackson, though he has also been linked with a move away from the club.

Since Fofana has hardly played in the Premier League, it’s not a surprise he is not attracting interest from the English top-flight, and an exit may come late in the window.

There is rumoured interest from Italy and France, which offer him a fresh start, having already played in Norway, Germany, England and Turkey.

With a contract until 2029, Fofana’s transfer value has dropped to around ÂŁ5m [$7m], in a 50% cut from what Chelsea paid to sign him in 2023.
