Enzo Maresca handed selection headache ahead of CWC quarter-final

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has been left facing a selection headache ahead of the crucial Club World Cup quarter-final against Palmeiras on Saturday.

Influential midfielder Romeo Lavia was seen missing from training ahead of the game and could be set to miss out on the action.

If the young Belgian is ruled out of the game, it will come as a huge blow to the Blues, as they are already without Moises Caicedo, who has been suspended from the game after picking up two yellow cards in the tournament.

In the potential absence of Lavia, Maresca will be left with the responsibility of picking a new midfield combination for the game against Palmeiras.

The Italian manager has the option of picking Andrey Santos and Dario Essugo in the heart of Chelsea’s midfield.

There is a chance for Santos to be handed his first start for the club ahead of what looks to be a big season for him, while Essugo has the chance to replace Caicedo as the ball-winner in midfield.

However, the manager could look to play it safe and hand a start to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who found the net off the bench last time out.
