England vs. Latvia live score: World Cup 2026 qualifying result, stats, highlights from Wembley Stadium

England play their second World Cup 2026 qualifying match on Monday as Latvia visit Wembley Stadium.

The Thomas Tuchel era began with an efficient if uninspiring 2-0 win over Albania last week, debutant Myles Lewis-Skelly and captain Harry Kane scoring the goals.

Tuchel has been clear about his demands not just for results but for proactive and engaging football from the Three Lions, and their first ever meeting with Latvia could offer a chance for some players to stake a claim for regular game time under the new coach.

The Sporting News will provide live score updates and highlights as they happen.

England vs. Latvia lineups, team news

Following his frank comments about his wingers after the Albania win, Tuchel offered backing to Phil Foden and Marcus Rashford, recognising their unfailing work out of possession.

“I have spoken to both of them and in front of the group,” he told BBC Sport. “They know that I appreciate the effort, especially off the ball. We can see in the numbers how much effort they put into defending high and in the counter-press.

“Marcus had a lot of runs when we had the ball where we did not see him, where we did not use him. He was a little bit unlucky maybe with the timing and from time to time we oversaw him.

“Phil is just maybe not finding the momentum at the moment that he can have. But both of them are very positive, they have every right to be positive and know exactly what we want from them. But off the ball, the effort was there and that’s what counts.”

This and the fact Anthony Gordon has suffered a hip injury means both look well positioned to keep their places in an unchanged XI as Tuchel seeks to groove his principles in quick time. Morgan Gibbs-White will feature in the matchday squad after missing out against Albania.

England predicted lineup (4-3-3, right to left): Pickford (GK) — Walker, Konsa, Burn, Lewis-Skelly — Jones, Bellingham, Rice — Foden, Kane, Rashford

Latvia came through their win over group minnows Andorra unscathed. Dario Sits came on at halftime and scored the winning goal.

Deniss Melniks, who Sits replaced, is likely to return to provide more midfield heft, but the goal-scorer last time out could come in for either Dmitrijs Zelenkovs or Vladislavs Gutkovskis in the attack.

Latvia predicted lineup (3-4-2-1, right to left): Zviedris (GK) — Jurkovskis, Balodis, Cernomordijs — Savalnieks, Melniks, Savaljevs, Ciganiks — Zelenkovs, Ikaunieks — Gutkovskis

England vs. Latvia stats, head to head

It seems hard to believe, but this will be England and Latvia’s first meeting in friendlies, European Championship qualifiers or World Cup qualification matches.

The last notable game between these two nations saw England’s women team beat Latvia 20-0 in a World Cup qualifying game in 2021.
