East-West Shrine Bowl final score, results: East shuts out West in 2025 NFL Draft showcase

The 100th edition of the East-West Shrine Bowl included a flat-out dominant effort by the East squad. 

On Thursday, some of the top talent available in April’s 2025 NFL Draft went head-to-head, with the game providing college football’s top players an opportunity to display their skills in front of NFL scouts and coaches. However, the East team finished with many more highlights than the West did, coasting to a 25-0 victory — the first East-West Shrine Bowl shutout since 1969. 

Arizona running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt was named offensive MVP after racking up 97 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while the defensive MVP went to South Carolina defensive back O’Donnell Fortune, who had a pick-six in the second quarter of the contest.

The West squad had won seven of the past eight matchups dating back to 2016, but the script was flipped in this year’s East-West Shrine Bowl. With North Dakota State quarterback Cam Miller taking most of the snaps at quarterback, the East scored 22 of its 25 points in the second quarter, also forcing multiple turnovers from West quarterbacks like UCLA’s Ethan Garbers and Minnesota’s Max Brosmer throughout the night.

By the late second half, the West squad was no longer playing with a chance to win and just looking to score some points. It even gave its kicker, Pitt’s Ben Sauls, a 55-yard field-goal opportunity with time ticking down in the fourth quarter. But that kick was no good, allowing the East’s 2025 draft prospects to roll to the first East-West Shrine Bowl shutout in over 50 years.

Final: East 25, West 0

10:59 p.m. — In a last-minute attempt to get on the scoreboard, the West brings out left-footed Pitt kicker Ben Sauls for a 55-yard field goal attempt. However, his kick goes too far to the left, and the East will officially shut out the West in this year’s Shrine Bowl. It’s the first shutout in the game since 1969.

10:55 p.m. — With under two minutes left, Brosmer is getting the West in field-goal range. At the very least, they might avoid a shut out.

10:45 p.m. — With time winding down in this one, the East gives the ball back to the West. The result is likely sealed at this point, but these final minutes are still opportunities for prospects to put on strong individual performances.

10:35 p.m. — Max Brosmer is sacked with under eight minutes remaining in the East-West Shrine Bowl, forcing the West to punt once again. 

10:21 p.m. — A big man interception! As Garbers and the West offense’s turnover issues continue, Ole Miss defensive lineman JJ Pegues picks off a pass. That ends yet another unsuccessful West drive, and it was also an impressive play by Pegues.

End of third quarter: East 25, West 0

10:14 p.m. — As the third quarter comes to a close, the West offense is still looking to get on the board; between turnovers and some rough quarterback play, the team hasn’t found much success. With Garbers still in at quarterback, the West will hope for a better fourth quarter.

East 25, West 0

10:08 p.m. FIELD GOAL — The East pads its lead with a field goal, making it a 25-0 game.

10:04 p.m. — Arizona running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt continues to be this game’s biggest star. Even on a shorter run, he makes a nice spin move and makes a few defenders miss. 

9:54 p.m. — With the East unable to find much offensively to begin the third quarter, the West will take over, still facing a 22-point deficit. UCLA’s Ethan Garbers will re-enter at quarterback.

9:47 p.m. — The East begins the second half with the ball. Auburn’s Payton Thorne is in at quarterback. 

Halftime: East 22, West 0

9:32 p.m. — Halftime hits as the East has a strong 22-0 advantage. So far, Cam Miller and Jacory Croskey-Merritt (74 rushing yards, two touchdowns) have lifted the East squad’s offense, while turnovers have played a key role in this game as well. 

9:29 p.m. — It took just one play for another turnover; Missouri edge rusher Johnny Walker takes down Brady Cook and pries the ball loose in the process. The East recovers.

9:26 p.m. — The East had the ball back with time winding down in the first half, but Cam Miller just coughed the football up. He mishandles the snap, and the West defense recovers. Brady Cook will look to get his team some points before halftime. 

9:21 p.m. — Here’s a look at Cam Miller’s two-point conversion pass to Louisville’s Ja’Cory Brooks:

9:13 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — The East is pouring it on now, with a pick-six coming from South Carolina’s O’Donnell Fortune. Brosmer threw the interception after some clear miscommunication, and it results in a three-score lead for the East. The two-point conversion is also good.

9:10 p.m. — We nearly had a big man touchdown in the East-West Shrine Bowl.

9:09 p.m. — Minnesota quarterback Max Brosmer is getting some reps in for the West now.

East 14, West 0

9:03 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Croskey-Merritt is back in the end zone. Make it two touchdown for the Arizona running back, padding the East lead to 14-0 already.

8:57 p.m. — The East has the ball in the red zone, looking to add to its lead. 

8:51 p.m. — Delaware’s Tyron Herring comes up with a pick against UCLA quarterback Ethan Garbers, giving the East the ball back.

8:48 p.m. — Cam Miller, the North Dakota State quarterback, is also having a strong performance so far. Here’s his two-point conversion:

8:42 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — The East takes the early lead, and Jacory Croskey-Merritt is making an early MVP case. He takes a pitch from Cam Miller into the end zone, putting his squad up on the scoreboard. Make it six rushes for 61 yards and a touchdown for Croskey-Merritt, and the East adds a two-point conversion as well.

End of first quarter: East 0, West 0

8:33 p.m. — Still looking for our first points of the game late in the first quarter, Arizona running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt breaks off a big run for the East.

8:29 p.m. —A sack from South Carolina’s Tonka Hemingway helps set up the next East drive:

8:21 p.m. — Per the NFL Network broadcast, Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord will not play in the East-West Shrine Bowl tonight. He was originally expected to play.

8:19 p.m. — Cam Miller gets an impressive last-second pass off on third down, but it’s not enough to move the chains. The West defense makes a stand. Now, its offense will get the ball back early in this game.

8:14 p.m. — Now, the East squad will get its first chance with the football after the West squad punts. North Dakota State’s Cam Miller is the starting quarterback for the East.

8:11 p.m. — Another Colorado receiver worth monitoring tonight: Will Sheppard. He makes a nice, turning grab to give the West team a first down on its opening drive.

8:09 p.m. — The West team will begin with the football, as Colorado’s La’Johntay Wester returns the opening kickoff and Missouri quarterback Brady Cook settles in under center.

8:05 p.m. — Coach Prime is in attendance as well.

8:01 p.m. — Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders is in the building for the East-West Shrine Bowl, but will not be playing.

7:58 p.m. — Almost game time in Arlington.

7:26 p.m. — Texas Tech RB Tahj Brooks is another name to keep an eye on tonight. He had 1,505 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns in his senior season.

7:12 p.m. — Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord is among the top names playing in this matchup. He led the nation with 4,779 passing yards this past college football season.
