New York has had to make some tough decisions to build a title contender, but one of its toughest could soon come back to bite.
Over the past few years, the Knicks have gone from a mediocre team in the East to one of the top contenders to represent the conference in the NBA Finals next season. Of course, building the franchise to become one of the league’s best squads has been a wild journey.
Almost none of the Knicks’ top players have been in New York for more than three seasons, and there have been some massive moves to get this core into place. While the Knicks likely don’t regret any of their big moves, seeing the aftermath of some of those moves could certainly hurt.
Donte DiVincenzo back in the East?
One of the toughest decisions the Knicks have had to make was sending out DiVincenzo and breaking up the ‘Nova Knicks in a deal to get Karl-Anthony Towns. While it hasn’t been all that tough for the Knicks to see DiVincenzo find some success in Minnesota, it might get tougher to root for him if a trade pitch from Fantasy Sports on SI’s Thomas Carelli comes true.
Bulls receive: Donte DiVincenzo
Timberwolves receive: Ayo Dosunmu, second-round pick
Although the Bulls aren’t necessarily a threat to the Knicks in the near future, it would still sting for Knicks fans to see one of their recent fan favorites making an impact for another Eastern Conference team and one of the Knicks’ top rivals. This move wouldn’t be the biggest blow to the Knicks in any way, but it certainly isn’t something New York is hoping for.
