Eagles urged to make surprising QB trade to help former coach

Kellen Moore did great things as the Eagles’ offensive coordinator.

In return, Philadelphia has a chance to do him a solid.

Moore, the new coach of the New Orleans Saints, might need a new quarterback.

Right now, the Saints are looking at a choice between Spencer Rattler, Jake Haener and Ben DiNucci after news of Derek Carr’s shoulder injury.

Many have speculated that the No. 9 pick in the NFL Draft is now in play for a passer, but there’s a cheaper option out there.

Moore has familiarity with him, too.

SI’s Ed Kracz suggests the Saints should trade for Eagles backup Tanner McKee.

The lanky McKee has limited NFL game action, but he went 30-for-45 across action for the Eagles with four TDs and no interceptions.

It could certainly help Moore to have a QB in the room who already knows him from his time in Philadelphia.

McKee is 6-foot-6 and from Stanford, an imposing presence with an intriguingly accurate arm.

He isn’t particularly mobile, which makes him an odd fit as a backup for Jalen Hurts, but in New Orleans, Moore could tailor an offense around his more stationary QBs.

In Philadelphia, it’d leave just Dorian Thompson-Robinson behind Hurts. A move like this could call for a mid-round draft selection to be used on a quarterback to make up the missing spot on the depth chart.
